A TRIP TO GANGOTRI AND GAUMUKH

Gaumukh is located in the Himalayas at a height of 4000 metres above main sea level. Gaumukh is where waters of the river Ganga flow out from the glaciers, In the distant past, the waters appeared to be flowing out from the cow's mouth, so the sages called it Gaumukh. However, one can only see the waters flowing out from beneath the glacier. This is probably due to the melting of the glacier which is a result of global warming. On May 2008, we trekked to this place, the most beautiful oneI had ever seen before. From Pune, we travelled via Delhi to Haridwar and from there we travelled a distance of 280 kms (approx) by road to Gangotri, the last point of motor able road. Gangotri is situated amidst captivating surroundings on the banks of the swiftly flowing Bhagirathi (Ganga is called Bhagirathi in this area). Gaumukh is 18 kms from Gangotri.One has to either trek or hire a pony to reach the glacier. It was the most beautiful trekking trail along the right bank of Bhagirathi River. The path was lined with tall coniferous trees. Occasionally, the chirping of the birds filled the air. The Hill Pheasant is a common sight. All along the way we could hear the roaring of the river. There are a number of streams joining the Bhagirathi. We reached Chirwasa, a place mid- way between Gangotri and Gaumukh. Beyond it, the terrain becomes desolated and barren. A few Indian Gazelles can be seen there.5 kms from here is Bhojwasa, the last place where one can stay at night. We stayed there in a tent at GMNVL guest house. From here we had the first glimpse of Gaumukh glacier. We trekked another 4 kms. To reach out destination. On our way we experienced rock climbing, mountain climbing and Doulder hopping. We also noticed small landslide. After a rigorous but enjoyable trek, we reached the source of Ganga and there I was standing 5 metres away. It felt like heaven on earth. The air was so fresh and everything looked so pure. I was chanted with the beauty. Just then a big piece of glacier splashed into the water followed by few more. My mother then insisted that it was time to return home. This experience has been one of the most wonderful one!

गौमुख मुख्य समुद्र तल से 4000 मीटर की ऊँचाई पर हिमालय में स्थित है।  गौमुख वह जगह है जहाँ गंगा नदी का पानी ग्लेशियरों से निकलता है, दूर के अतीत में, गाय के मुंह से पानी बहता हुआ दिखाई देता है, इसलिए ऋषियों ने इसे गौमुख कहा।  हालाँकि, कोई केवल ग्लेशियर के नीचे से बहते पानी को देख सकता है।  यह संभवतः ग्लेशियर के पिघलने के कारण है जो ग्लोबल वार्मिंग का परिणाम है।  मई 2008 को, हमने इस जगह पर ट्रेकिंग की, जो सबसे खूबसूरत वनआई पहले कभी नहीं देखी गई थी।  पुणे से, हमने दिल्ली से हरिद्वार तक की यात्रा की और वहाँ से हमने मोटर सक्षम सड़क के अंतिम बिंदु गंगोत्री तक सड़क मार्ग से 280 किलोमीटर (लगभग) की दूरी तय की।  गंगोत्री तेजी से बहने वाली भागीरथी (इस क्षेत्र में गंगा को भागीरथी कहा जाता है) के तट पर स्थित है।  गंगोत्री से गौमुख 18 किलोमीटर दूर है। ग्लेशियर तक पहुँचने के लिए या तो ट्रेक करना पड़ता है या टट्टू किराए पर लेना पड़ता है।  यह भागीरथी नदी के दाहिने किनारे के साथ सबसे खूबसूरत ट्रेकिंग ट्रेल था।  रास्ता लंबा शंकुधारी पेड़ों से अटा पड़ा था।  कभी-कभी, पक्षियों के चहकने से हवा भर जाती थी।  पहाड़ी तीतर एक आम दृश्य है।  रास्ते भर हम नदी की गर्जना सुन सकते थे।  भागीरथी में कई धाराएँ मिलती हैं।  हम गंगोत्री और गौमुख के बीच में एक जगह चिरवासा पहुँचे।  इसके अलावा, इलाक़ा वीरान और बंजर हो जाता है।  कुछ भारतीय गजलों को वहाँ से देखा जा सकता है। यहाँ से 5 किलोमीटर दूर भोजवासा है, जहाँ कोई भी रात में रुक सकता है।  हम GMNVL गेस्ट हाउस में एक टेंट में रुके थे।  यहां से हमें गौमुख ग्लेशियर की पहली झलक मिली।  हमने एक और 4 किलोमीटर की ट्रेकिंग की।  गंतव्य तक पहुंचने के लिए।  रास्ते में हमें रॉक क्लाइम्बिंग, माउंटेन क्लाइम्बिंग और डोलर होपिंग का अनुभव हुआ।  हमने छोटे भूस्खलन पर भी ध्यान दिया।  एक कठोर लेकिन सुखद ट्रेक के बाद, हम गंगा के स्रोत तक पहुँच गए और वहाँ मैं 5 मीटर दूर खड़ा था।  ऐसा लगा जैसे धरती पर स्वर्ग हो।  हवा बहुत ताजा थी और सब कुछ इतना शुद्ध लग रहा था।  मैं सुंदरता के साथ जप किया गया था।  तभी ग्लेशियर का एक बड़ा टुकड़ा पानी में बह गया और उसके बाद कुछ और।  मेरी मां ने तब जोर देकर कहा कि घर लौटने का समय हो गया है।  यह अनुभव सबसे शानदार में से एक रहा है!
